Since the appearance of the first cases of Covid-19 in Malaysia in January 2020, there has been tremendous disruption to on-site clinical training for undergraduate students in the University Malaya Medical Programme (UMMP). It is imperative that medical students are provided with an orientation to changes in the clinical learning environment since the advent of the pandemic to minimise the risk of infection transmission in the clinical setting. Students need to be updated on changes in clinical management of patients in Malaysia since the advent of the pandemic and understand their role in safe patient care. The pandemic has had a major impact on health care in every discipline in medicine. As future health care professionals, medical students need to be equipped with knowledge of a pandemic that has had a major impact on the health of communities globally. Students have an opportunity to understand the importance of public health and real-life application of public health principles in the context of management of the pandemic.
